Review #246 Larceny Barrel Proof C921

Distillery: Heaven Hill

Proof: 122.6

Age: Between 6-8 years

Mashbill: 68% Corn, 20% Wheat, 12% Malted Barley

BACKGROUND: Larceny is a wheated bourbon distilled and produced by Heaven Hill and is one of the few wheated bourbons on the market competing with Makers Mark and Weller primarily. In 2020, Heaven Hill decided that they would release 3, Barrel Proof releases of Larceny along with their tri-annual Elijah Craig Barrel Proof releases. A120 was the first release and it had mixed reviews but with each subsequent release, Larceny Barrel Proof has continually gotten better. C921 is the third and final release of Larceny Barrel Proof for 2021.

NOSE: A rich, bold, and sweet nose with scents of candied pecans, rich caramel, caramelized brown sugar, and mature charred oak. There is also a roasted/chocolatey note that was flirting with us without burning our nose at all (22/25)

PALATE: Oh my, this has got to be the best palate of any Larceny Barrel Proofs to date! Complex, bold, flavorful! Delicious flavors of candied black cherry and plum waltz with rich and smooth maple, cola, and vanilla. The proof adds a bold feel to the whiskey balancing out the sweeter profile. Larceny C921 is incredibly smooth with a chewy mouthfeel (37/40)

FINISH: A long finish that watered my mouth making me jump at the bit for another sip. Notes of cherry cola, molasses, and oak sugars with a slight hint of tannins (23/25)

VALUE: Larceny Barrel Proofs have an SRP of $50 and we think that's pretty fair. We would pay right up to SRP but nothing more. (8/10)

Overall: 90/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: Larceny C921 is one of the best releases of 2021. With a rich, sweet, and complex flavor profile that continually seduced us with new flavors each sip. We couldn't recommend this one enough to all those who enjoy wheated bourbon, sweeter whiskey, or smooth high proof whiskey.
