BACKGROUND: Sonoma Brothers is a distillery in Sonoma County, CA. They’re 2 brothers, Chris, a firefighter, and Brandon, a police officer. They launched their distillery in 2012 after going to Michigan State to learn the art and science of distillation and blending. Sonoma Brothers uses all CA grown grain using local farmers which produces a unique flavor to Sonoma CA. They’re passionate about community service and running a small family business. They’re available in CO, NE, WI, IL, CT, DE, FL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, RI, and CA!
NOSE: It’s a lighter nose but has plenty of sweet vanilla, charred oak, cherry notes and some brown sugar! There is no burn whatsoever (20/25)
PALATE: Super smooth with loads of sweet corn, vanilla, lighter oak, and some grassy notes. It’s very smooth but definitely on the lighter side; they did a great job of maintaining flavor while keeping the proof low as some low proofed whiskeys are ultra watery (30/40)
FINISH: The finish is really nice with some sweet cinnamon that tingled my mouth followed by oak and a slightly bitter note I can’t put my tongue on. It’s a longer finish than I expected (20/25)
VALUE: This is a nice buy at $40! They’re craft distillery using local grains and ensuring grain to glass (8/10)
Overall: 78/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: An easy drinking, wheated bourbon made by a great, craft distillery ran by selfless public servants! This is perfect as a daily drinker or in a cocktail! We highly encourage y’all to get a bottle!
