BACKGROUND: Taconic Distillery was launched in 2013 in Standfordville, NY. Nuzzled in the Hudson Valley, Taconic tries to cherish the outdoorsy spirit of the area in their whiskey. They are a true small business and craft distillery with a diverse whiskey portfolio including this, their flagship bourbon, Dutchess Private Reserve straight bourbon, a barrel strength bourbon, a rye whiskey, a barrel strength rye and a double barrel maple bourbon whiskey.
NOSE: Scents of sweet cherry, vanilla, and light maple syrup. Strong ethanol base that burns a little. It comes off as a citrus zest. There isn’t much oak (19/25)
PALATE: Very light sip that feels almost watered down. Very thin mouthfeel but the notes are lots of spice, some vanilla and dried fruit. It has a sweet baking flavor as well to it that’s enjoyable (31/40)
FINISH: The finish is barely there but it barely shows itself as some oak and black pepper (18/25)
VALUE: This is perfectly priced at $35 for a local craft whiskey (8/10)
Overall: 76/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a easy drinker with a nice light mouthfeel and sweet flavor notes. It’s enjoyable to sip on and a great introductory whiskey. I recommend this to all new whiskey drinkers who can get their hands on it.
