BACKGROUND: Georgia Heartwood Bourbon is a wheated bourbon that is sourced from MGP but aged and finished at the Atlanta Spirit Works (ASW) distillery. The bourbon is finished in charred Georgia Oak staves for the last 2-3 months upon arrival from MGP. The combination of the charred oak staves and the wheated mashbill is what gives this bourbon such a unique sweet and spicy flavor.
NOSE: The proof makes itself known immediately when you first take a smell. As your nose starts to adjust to the proof you are able to pick up flavors of raisins, sawdust, and a rich, sweet caramel. (21/25)
PALATE: A silky coat of flavor covers your mouth with flavors of brown sugar, vanilla, maple syrup, with a nutty spiced oak on the back. (34/40)
FINISH: This finish is probably the best part of this bourbon with a delicious heavy spice oak flavor that coats your entire mouth that slowly fades into a light vanilla. (22/25)
VALUE: With a SRP of $70 this bottle is very par for course in that price range. Goes toe to toe with some of the more well known brand names in the whiskey industry. (7/10)
Overall: 84/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: This is one of the best craft distillery whiskeys that have been reviewed to date. Perfectly balanced with a wonderful finish. We recommend this whiskey to anyone and everyone, especially if you enjoy wheated bourbons.
