Distillery: Bardstown Brewing Company
Proof: 94.9
Age: 13 year mixed with a 3-4 year blend
Mashbill: 74% corn, 18% rye, & 8% barley
BACKGROUND: Bardstown Fusion series was made with the goal of blending both younger and older Kentucky straight whiskeys. The 13 year old whiskey is sourced then blended with Bardstown’s own hand selected mashbill with barrels that are in the 3-4 year range. The blend itself was voted on by various members that belong to the distilling, culinary, and beverage programs within Bardstown Bourbon Company.
NOSE: A very sweet nose opening up with a smoky floral combination that blends with a sweet cane/brown sugar combination. As it sits you get your more traditional flavors of oak, vanilla, and a light toffee note. (22/25)
PALATE: A light viscous mouthfeel swirling around with a nutty wood front. As you take your second sip, notes of brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, come to play mixing with a dark fruity note comparable to licorice. As the toffee starts getting overtaken by the other notes, a nutty flavor takes over mixed with an oaky black cracked pepper. (33/40)
FINISH: A medium finish lined with notes of dark fruits, sawdust, cracked paper, leather, tobacco, and of course charred oak, leaving you begging for more. (22/25)
VALUE: For $60 this is a delicious blend of whiskey, has just enough of a combination of young and old to make a wonderful neat pour! (7/10)
Overall: 84/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: I wasn't sure what to expect with such a unique mashbill, but this expression was absolutely delicious! The perfect amount of older notes like tobacco, oak, and leather, with younger notes of sugar, floral notes, and vanilla! If you see this around SRP, pull the trigger.
