BACKGROUND: William Price Cask Strength Rye whiskey comes from William Price Distilling Co based out of Houston, TX. William Price Distilling Co is a new distillery in Texas who are "NOT REINVENTING DISTILLING ... just doing it our way." Known for their Rye Whiskey, William Price has some unique offerings including a 101 proof straight rye, sherry finish, french oak finish, honey barrel, and this cask strength. They also offer a rye finished single malt, sherry finish single malt as well as some rum, tequila, and vodka. Their Cask Strength Rye Whiskey is a blend of 3-6 barrels selected and batched at William Price. According to William Price, this is a "Bold cask strength rye that is intended to be drunk neat, with a splash of water or on the rocks."

NOSE: A fruity and sweet nose with scents of orange peel and tropical fruits along with some mint. there are, of course, some spicy scents of cinnamon and nutmeg. One interesting scent I pulled was almond extract. Overall, the nose is on the softer side for 123 proof (21/25)

PALATE: Where the nose was softer, the palate packs a punch right off the bat! Tingly spice prickles your entire mouth as the flavors blossom. I first noticed the rich notes of black pepper, spiced oak, and roasted nuts but on subsequent sips I pulled some dark chocolate that gave a somewhat bitter taste along with some caramel and some dark fruity note that I can't put my tongue on. Overall, it is full of feel and very bold with a slightly bitter taste. (32/40)

FINISH: The finish is full of charred oak and freshly baked rye bread notes and is quite long. It left my mouth watering for another sip (21/25)

VALUE: With a $65 SRP this is a very fairly priced whiskey (7/10)

Overall: 81/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: William Price Cask Strength Rye Whiskey is a tasty and enjoyable rye whiskey loaded with flavor. For a cask strength rye whiskey this is definitely a BOLD whiskey but we would recommend it to those who enjoy high proof rye.
