BACKGROUND: Michter's Distillery is a well known and highly sought after whiskey distillery. They are based out of Louisiville, KY. They currently contract distill where they have strong oversight and control over how another distillery produces their whiskey including the mashbill, age, and aging process. They also are distilling their own whiskey and aging it with the plans to bottle their own whiskey and distribute that instead of their contract distilled whiskey. Their flagship products are this small batch bourbon, a straight rye, an American whiskey, and a sour mash whiskey. They have multiple limited release series which include their toasted line: toasted bourbon, toasted barrel strength rye, and toasted sour mash; their 10 year single barrel line which includes a 10 year bourbon and 10 year rye; a 20 year bourbon, 20 year rye, 25 year bourbon and an occasion celebration sour mash whiskey.
NOSE: The nose is on the lighter side but is full of classic bourbon notes of caramel, vanilla, sweet corn, and oak. It is pretty straight forward but does not burn at all. (20/25)
PALATE: Michter's US*1 Small Batch Bourbon has a classic bourbon flavor profile. It is very smooth with complex and developed traits. It starts off with sweet notes deep caramel, smooth oak, rich vanilla, and smooth baking spice that then turns into a rich maple. The whiskey has a full mouthfeel and is easy to sip on. With a drop of water it is like a fresh crumb cake. (33/40)
FINISH: The finish is on the lighter side with traces of oak, pepper, dried plums and honey. It is medium in length and pretty straight forward. (20/25)
VALUE: Michter's US*1 Small Batch Bourbon has a $40 SRP which is a not only perfectly priced but also an incredible value. (9/10)

FINAL THOUGHTS: Michter's makes some very tasty whiskey and their small batch bourbon is one of their wonderful flag ship products. This is a consistently delicious bourbon whiskey that will never let anyone down. This is an excellent daily drinker, introductory whiskey, or a good whiskey to put in a blind flight and see where it ranks. Michter's US*1 Small Batch Bourbon also makes a killer manhattan. This is one of our go to whiskeys.
