BACKGROUND: Garrison Brothers Single Barrel is a Texas straight bourbon whiskey that comes in at 94 proof, is a minimum of four years old, and is distilled in Hye, Texas. Garrison Brothers was launched in 2006 and was the first distillery to be granted a stiller's permit for bourbon outside of Kentucky and Tennessee which makes it the oldest legal bourbon distillery in Texas. Their whiskey portfolio includes a Small Batch, Single Barrel, Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Cowboy (barrel proof), this Honey Dew (honey infused), Estacado (port finish) and Laguna Madre (limousine oak), Balmorhea (double oaked), and new Rye whiskey. Garrison Brothers Honey Dew is a Texas straight bourbon whiskey that is finished in Texas honey infused barrels.
NOSE: Rich caramel, deep oak, toasted brown sugar & molasses. It flirts with some burn but never hits. Overall it is very smooth and sweet. (23/25)
PALATE: Garrison Brother's Honey Dew is very unique. Up front is sweet honey, warm caramel, charred oak, and maple that is followed by some floral and honey notes. It has a full thick mouthfeel with slight bitterness (34/40)
FINISH: Lots of oak and honey here and is medium in length with full oily mouthfeel (22/25)
VALUE: This is a very unique whiskey so at $70 I think it’s slightly high but not bad. I wouldn’t pay more than $85 for it. (8/10)
Overall: 86/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Garrison Brother's Honey Dew is a very unique and easy drinking whiskey. It has rich flavors and is not overly sweet. This is an excellent whiskey for new whiskey drinkers or as a dessert whiskey.
