Review #53 Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled-in-Bond

Updated: Feb 21, 2021

Distillery: Heaven Hill Distillery

Proof: 100

Age: 10 Years

Mashbill: 78% Corn, 10% Rye, and 12% Malted Barley

BACKGROUND: Henry McKenna was an immigrant who came to Kentucky from Ireland in 1837. Henry McKenna's family recipe that he brought to the states is still the one used today at Heaven Hill.

NOSE: McKenna has a very classic aroma to it with notes of sweet caramel backed with spiced vanilla. There was not as much of an alcohol scent as I would have expected (21/25)

PALATE: The vanilla was much more prevalent on the palate than it was on the nose. After the vanilla flavor coats your mouth it is shortly followed by a rye spice combined with a sweet caramel that can almost be characterized as a maple syrup or molasses taste. (32/40)

FINISH: This is one of the finer finishes I have had lately. A delightful medium balance of matured oak, leather, and very light hints of vanilla that keep it sweet, while keeping the traditional aged bourbon flavor. (21/25)

VALUE: Henry McKenna 10 year has a SRP of $30 which is an absolute steal! If you see this bottle for its original price & are a fan of aged bourbon you will not be disappointed. (10/10)

Overall: 84/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: Henry McKenna 10 Year is a home run bourbon whiskey. It is smooth, rich, bold, and classic. When you factor in the SRP it really is a perfect daily drinker. This is one of our go to bourbons and we recommend you getting yourself a bottle if you ever see it. This is perfect for any whiskey drinker whether they are new to whiskey or whiskey fanatics.
