Review #94 Tommy Bahama Rye Whiskey

Distillery: Coral Cay Distilling

Proof: 93

Age: NAS

Mashbill: 70% Rye, 20% Corn, 10% Malted Barley

Background: Tommy Bahama, one of the most Recognizable brands in the country has dipped it's toes in yet another venture. Coming out of Washington, Coral Cay Distilling is a family owned distillery that got its start in 2012. Blue Spirits was one of the first distilleries, locking in the state's 3ed license. Shortly after, with a few strokes of luck and destiny, Tommy Bahama whiskey was born. A few years ago founders of the distillery were trying to figure out how to expand their distribution, they found themselves at a Tommy Bahama restaurant in california trying to figure out what their next move would be. After ideas were flying back and forth, eventually one of the founders took out the business card of Doug Wood, Tommy Bahama's CEO. They reached out to him and pitched the idea of distributing whiskey, next steps included a flight to NY, some designing, implementation, and the rest is history.

NOSE: A very warm upfront nose with a plethora of different flavors. The first scent I pulled was a caramel toffee like flavor along with roasted rye, oak, and a delicious banana (21/25)

PALATE: Very sweet with heavy flavors of caramel, corn, rye spice, cinnamon, and cracked black pepper. (32/40)

FINISH: A medium finish full of caramel, vanilla, slight corn, and oak. The corn flavor is not as strong in the finish as it was in the nose and palate, nevertheless quite enjoyable (20/25)

VALUE: Tommy Bahama Rye is priced at a very fair $45, I was afraid that the name would run up the cost but that is certainly not the care with this one. Fantastic buy, and will always catch the eye of someone looking into your collection, I will always try to keep one of these on my shelf. (7/10)

Overall: 80/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: Tommy Bahama Rye fits along with anything else that comes from Tommy Bahama, excellent quality and makes you want to sit back and relax!

Similar & Slightly Better Whiskey: Angel's Envy Finished Rye

Similar & Equal Whiskey: Barrell Rye

Similar & Slightly Worse Whiskey: Wild Turkey Longbranch
